Pawpaw 'Select Seed' (Asimina triloba)

The pawpaw select seed tree represents a cultivated or specially chosen variety of the native pawpaw, selected for superior traits such as fruit size, flavor, yield, or hardiness. Like its wild counterpart, it is a small, deciduous tree typically reaching 15 to 25 feet in height, with large, tropical-looking leaves that create a striking visual display and turn rich yellow in autumn. These select seed trees are often chosen from superior genetics and grown for orchard production, breeding, or high-quality fruit harvests. In spring, they bear deep maroon flowers, followed by clusters of green, oblong fruits that ripen in late summer. The fruits are larger, sweeter, and more consistent in quality than wild specimens—featuring a creamy, custard-like texture and a flavor blend reminiscent of banana, mango, and vanilla. Ideal for food forests, niche orchards, and native edible landscapes, pawpaw select seed trees offer a unique combination of ecological value, low maintenance needs, and gourmet fruit appeal.
